We Remodeled Our Bathroom!

Back in April, Daniel and I closed on our new house. A cute little brick home that sits on 3 acres with a roomy barn and perfect size pond. Trees stretch around the entire property and hides us away from other houses in the neighborhood. Our very own country haven.

Our little house is smaller than our last, however holds the same amount of bedrooms with one less bathroom. The master bedroom sits at the end of the hallway and houses only 1 closet and no master en-suite.

The only bathroom acts as the main bath for the entire house. I remember as we did our walk-through when we decided to go and check it out, it was probably the worst bathroom I had ever seen. The tile was BLUE, the tub was BLUE, the sink was BLUE, the window was dingy, the walls, toilet, sink, and counter were dirty, and I wanted to get out of there as soon as I could. I told Daniel that even for me to consider this house, we had to completely remodel the bathroom. The layout was so weird and I couldn't understand how anyone could of thought it was functional.

I always had an interest in Interior Design and Daniel's background in remodeling and repair kind of made us the perfect pair to take on this major project.

After many, many nights of bathroom layout research (Pinterest) and figuring out prices for new plumbing and fixtures, we came up with the perfect design plan.

Here's the moment you've all been waiting for, BEFORE:

I know. It was horrible. The exact night that we closed on the house, our friends and Daniel's awesome parents helped us completely rip every inch of the bathroom to the studs!

Once it was completely gutted, we were able to envision our new and definitely improved bathroom!

We went to Lowes and bought a brand new bathtub and a toilet. At our last house, our tub was so tiny and shallow and we wanted a roomy, deep, soaker tub. It rounds out on one side for just a little bit of extra room.

The toilet was about $150 more than we wanted to spend, but if we were going to have a brand new bathroom, I wanted a nice toilet that we wouldn't have problems with in a few years. Plus, I really like the look and the soft close lid on the one we bought! We also moved the toilet over where there was a linen closet. I said to Daniel, "Can you knock out the closet completely and we can move the toilet over here in it's place so we can move the direction of the bathtub?" He of course agreed with the new layout plan and got to work! Where the toilet had been, there would be a space between the tub and the wall, so I thought open shelving would look great! We got started on the framing and could see how well it was starting to look! We also enclosed the window since we wanted to move the direction of the tub, and I am so beyond happy that we did!

In our kitchen for the floor, I wanted marble. But of course, marble is just way too expensive for our blood, so we went with a porcelain faux marble 24x12 tile from Home Depot. It looks so gorgeous and we decided to carry it into the bathroom to tie the two in together!

After we moved some plumbing (and replaced a whole lot of plumbing!) we put our tub in, and we were able to finally lay the flooring!

We wanted to do white subway tile all the way up to the ceiling in the shower. I love the darker grout against the white tile! The contrast of the two look so good together and gives the perfect farmhouse look! I'll also have you know, that all of the subway tile in the tub that needed to be cut, was cut by yours truly! I had never used a tile saw before and Daniel showed me the basics of how to work it, I was cutting tile all day!

After looking at sink options, we knew that we wanted a double vanity. It's the most practical thing we absolutely had to have. Little did we know, once you went into looking for a new double vanity, you'd be spending over $1,000 just for the vanity! The sinks and fixtures were expensive enough as it was!

After a couple months of trying to figure out what we wanted to do, we decided to just build our own vanity and save money! I'm so happy that we went that route because it not only looks amazing (especially with the open shelving concept), but we could make it higher so we don't even have to bend down at all to wash our hands.

We knew we wanted the top to be stained wood and as well as the shelf below the sinks. The whole base was painted white. We only use Behr paint for all of our painting needs. It's the best in mine and Daniel's professional opinion!

Once we secured the base of the vanity to the wall, we mapped out where we were going to put the holes for the sinks. We bought deep, roomy, squared sinks from Home Depot online and we fell in love with them!

We got these amazing light fixtures at Lowes. We love the farmhouse design and these lights were exactly what we were wanting! We went with Edison bulbs and they were actually very pricey! They run for $10 for just one and we needed SIX!!! But they are so beyond worth it!

Once Daniel cut the holes in the top for the sinks, we were finally able to put them in and get the plumbing hooked up! The shelving was finally done, the mirrors arrived, the shower curtain was hung, the gorgeous Grey paint was up on the walls and the grout in between the tile was set, and we were ready to go!

The is the bathroom now after all is done and beautiful!

We couldn't be more proud of how everything turned out! I love the idea of neutral colors and the contrast between light and dark. It makes for the perfect farmhouse look! The fixtures all throughout the house included the door knobs are all in the color Antique Bronze!

Lowes and Home Depot definitely made a pretty penny off of us during this renovation, but we are super happy with the finished product!
